(USNewsBreak.com) – A drone attack killed three US service members in Jordan and injured dozens more on January 28. The troops, part of Operation Inherent Resolve, were participating in a mission to defeat ISIS. In the aftermath, the Defense Department was investigating to find the organization responsible for the attack, though it seemingly blamed an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) backed militia with “the footprints of Kataib Hezbollah.” Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh vowed the US would hold Iran accountable for financing the militia groups. Iran has now issued its own warning.
Following the attack that killed and injured many at Jordan’s Tower 22, President Joe Biden made it clear that the US wouldn’t stand by and do nothing. Instead, its response would come at a “time and manner of our choosing.” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby had some words of his own during a January 31 presser: “the first thing you see won’t be the last thing,” and it “won’t just be a one-off.”

Hossein Salami, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander-in-chief, acknowledged the warning and told the IRNA, Iran’s state-sanctioned news agency, that the country isn’t “after war, but [has] no fear of war,” per The Hill. He wasn’t the only one to respond to Biden’s words.
On Tuesday evening, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, spoke with the IRNA and said, “The Islamic Republic would decisively respond” to any US efforts to retaliate. He did not elaborate on exactly what that response would entail, only that the nation would mount a “strong response,” according to AP News.
Since October 7, when Hamas launched its surprise attack on Israel and scaled up the conflict between the two sides, the situation in the Middle East has become contentious, to say the least, particularly for American troops. They have come under attack more than 160 times since the escalation. The US has also reportedly shot down Iranian drones over the Red Sea. However, the attack on the 28th was the first resulting in deaths.
