(USNewsBreak.com) – Questions surrounding the Supreme Court’s ethics have arisen, particularly after reports emerged about the many perks the Justices have received over the last several years. The majority conservative bench has also come under fire for some of its recent rulings, including the Dobbs decision that overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade case and, this term, the Chevron Deference doctrine. One Democratic representative has filed articles of impeachment against two of them.
In a press release on her congressional website, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), or AOC as press sources call her, announced she had introduced articles of impeachment against Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. She said, “The unchecked corruption crisis on the Supreme Court has now spiraled into a Constitutional crisis.”

She accused the Justices of failing to recuse themselves from cases in which they had personal and financial entanglements. She called such behavior a “grave threat to [the] American rule of law, the integrity of our democracy, and one of the clearest cases” for impeachment.
AOC went further, adding that if judicial colleagues had found any judges in lower courts guilty of the offenses she claimed Alito and Thomas committed, they would have removed the offenders. She stated that Congress would never have confirmed Supreme Court nominees suspected of the infractions that Thomas and Alito allegedly perpetrated.
In making the case for Alito’s impeachment, Ocasio-Cortez said he failed to disclose financial information, including gifts, property interests, income, liabilities, and reimbursements. Additionally, he failed to recuse himself from cases where he had a bias or entanglement. Moreover, she noted his failure to recuse himself from cases involving former President Donald Trump after reports surfaced that Alito flew controversial flags associated with Trump’s claims about the past election.
Turning to Thomas, AOC accused him of failing to recuse himself from cases where his spouse, Ginni Thomas, had legal or financial interests and for failing to disclose financial information, including substantial gifts.
Republicans currently hold the majority in the Lower Chamber, albeit a slim one, meaning the House wouldn’t likely advance Ocasio-Cortez’s impeachment articles to a vote.
