Nancy Mace Defeats Challenger in Primary

(USNewsBreak.com) – In October 2023, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was ousted from the House leadership role. That led to his leaving Congress altogether. According to The Washington Post, McCarthy promised revenge by working to remove those who voted against him from Congress. However, one of those lawmakers just won her state’s primary.

On Tuesday, June 11, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) beat her challengers in her state’s Republican primary. One of those challengers was Catherine Templeton, who received the support of McCarthy’s PAC. Meanwhile, Trump endorsed Mace the day before the primary election took place.

McCarthy and his affiliated groups contributed in more than one way to Templeton’s campaign. His political action committee (PAC) donated $10,000. Then, one of the groups tied to a McCarthy ally, the American Prosperity Alliance, donated to the South Carolina Patriots PAC, which contributed $2.1 million to Templeton’s campaign.

Mace is just one of the targets McCarthy reportedly has his sights on. Others include representatives Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Eli Crane (R-AZ), and Matt Rosendale (R-MT).

Some strategists believe that McCarthy’s efforts are for naught. One, Chip Felkel, said that the former speaker is “old news.” He further said that many Trump supporters see McCarthy “as part of the problem and the establishment.”

Another GOP strategist, Dave Wilson, noted that things aren’t exactly looking good for the former congressman. He compared his record to a sports analogy where he’s “0 and 1” and in order to have any kind of impact, the next five candidates he endorses will have to blow the others out of the water. Only then will that demonstrate whether McCarthy still has any kind of pull in Washington.
