(USNewsBreak.com) – Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) is one of former President Donald Trump’s biggest supporters. She has stood behind him in the face of all his legal battles, and many consider her a prime candidate in the running for his vice presidential pick should he win the Republican nomination. She’s also gone to bat for him in the legal sphere, recently filing a complaint against New York Attorney General Letitia James.
In a letter to the New York Committee on Professional Standards dated February 12, Stefanik accuses James of “conducting a biased investigation and prosecution of” Trump and making “extrajudicial statements.” The New York lawmaker said that dating from October 2023, the AG posted at least 50 such remarks online before she stopped keeping count. In the correspondence, Stefanik went on to demand that James face repercussions for her actions, asking the committee to open an investigation and “issue an immediate interim suspension, disbar Ms. James as an attorney and counselor-at-law, or suspend Ms. James.”

James is the prosecutor in the case against the former president in which New York Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron determined he was guilty of real estate fraud. He is currently awaiting the outcome of that trial, which concluded on January 11. Legal experts expect the judge to hand down the verdict by Friday, February 16, a source told NBC News.
This letter wasn’t the first complaint Stefanik has filed on Trump’s behalf. Last November, she filed one against Judge Engoron, accusing him of “weaponized lawfare” against the former president and asking him to recuse himself from the case. In December, she filed one against US District Judge Beryl Howell, who is presiding over some of the January 6 cases in DC. That complaint alleged that Howell implied criticism against Trump and accused him of encouraging the January 6, 2021, riots and of engaging in “authoritarianism.” Howell also presided over the grand jury responsible for indicting Trump for his alleged role in the trouble regarding the last presidential election.
