(USNewsBreak.com) – Getting involved in a dispute can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re walking into. However, for some, the risk is worth helping someone who might be in a precarious situation. A 20-year-old DoorDash driver in Southern California recently intervened in what he perceived to be an altercation, and it turned into a horrifying encounter.
Angelo Montoya was on his way to pick up a food order when he noticed a man and woman fighting on the side of the road in San Diego’s Ocean Beach neighborhood. He stopped when he heard the woman screaming for help. However, the situation escalated out of control from there.
The man reportedly told Montoya to continue and leave the pair alone. Montoya refused, and the man allegedly reached through his window and punched him. Montoya called 911 and told the woman to get into his car. With her in his car, Montoya drove away, thinking that would be the end of the situation. However, the man followed him.
The car camera in the 20-year-old’s Tesla caught the man chasing the two down the street. It didn’t end there, though. The man rammed his car into Montoya’s, causing him to collide with other vehicles. The assailant fled the scene, leaving Montoya with “soreness to [his] neck, [his] lower back, and [the] calf on [his] right leg was hurting,” per CBS 8. He was reportedly treated at the hospital for his injuries. He also lamented the damage to his car, a Model 3 he said was almost paid off.
As for the man involved in the dangerous altercation, police later arrested and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon. The woman didn’t suffer any injuries.
Despite the severity of the situation and the danger he faced, Montoya said he wouldn’t hesitate to answer someone else’s distress call in the future, saying he thought he did the right thing.
