Cyndi Lauper's Son Hit With Charges

(USNewsBreak.com) – Cyndi Lauper has remained a pop icon since she became one of the best-known singers in the early 1980s, becoming one of the era’s biggest stars. She’s now in the news for an entirely different reason. Police recently arrested her son and only child, Declyn, for gun possession after a shooting took place in New York City.

Authorities arrested Mr. Lauper, 26, on the evening of Wednesday, February 7. He and a friend reportedly took an Uber to Harlem. During the incident, an unknown assailant fired a shot, striking an individual, later identified as Omar Lewin, 24, in the leg. Police then apprehended Mr. Lauper at a nearby location and allegedly found a Glock handgun, loaded with seven bullets, in a fanny pack he wore. Officers also claimed he had blood splatter on his shoes. He isn’t facing any charges in the shooting incident.

Officers charged Mr. Lauper with two counts of criminal possession of a firearm “with intent to use it unlawfully against another,” according to The Blast. ABC News reported that authorities also charged him with criminal possession of a controlled substance. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The singer’s son appeared in court on February 9, and the court jailed him on $20,000 cash bail. That same day, his dad, “Law & Order” actor David Thornton, appeared at the court and reportedly bailed him out. He’s due back in court today.

Prosecutors also charged Lewin with criminal gun possession. First responders took him to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where doctors listed him in stable condition.

Reportedly, Mr. Lauper has had run-ins with police before. In 2022, he stole a Mercedes-Benz, and authorities caught him sitting in the C350. For that incident, prosecutors charged him with felony unauthorized use of a vehicle. He pleaded guilty and served one year of probation and one year of community service.
