Actress Passes Away at 98

(USNewsBreak.com) – Many critics consider the 1950s and 1960s the golden era in Hollywood. Several revered actors and actresses made their mark during this time. Yvonne Furneaux was one of those. She appeared alongside such stars as Errol Flynn, Christopher Lee, and Laurence Olivier. Sadly, she recently passed away at the age of 98.

Her son, Nicholas Natteau, confirmed Furneaux’s death in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. She died on July 5 at her North Hampton, New Hampshire, home following complications from a stroke.

Furneaux was born in France to British parents in May 1926. She pursued the arts from a young age, graduating from St. Hilda’s College in Oxford and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1951. Just a year later, she was appearing in films. In 1952, Furneaux appeared in both “Affair in Monte Carlo” and “Meet Me Tonight.” The pair of films launched her career, and she remained successful for years.

The actress appeared opposite Laurence Olivier in 1953 in “The Beggar’s Opera” and alongside another heartthrob of the era, Australian-American actor Errol Flynn in “The Master of Ballantrae.” She also appeared alongside him in “Crossed Swords.”

She finally made her mark in 1955, when she appeared in “Le Amiche,” and then went on to star in “The Mummy,” a 1959 horror flick starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. By 1960, she was a major Hollywood star, an onscreen siren with many admirers and fans.

According to her IMDB page, she has 45 credits to her name. Her last on-screen appearance was in 1984 in the movie “Frankenstein’s Great Aunt Tillie.” She retired after that.

Furneaux met her husband, cinematographer Jacques Natteau, in 1961 on the set of “The Story of The Count of Monte Cristo.” The pair wed in 1962. They remained married until Natteau’s death in 2007.

Her son, Nicholas, and daughter-in-law, Leiva, survive the actress.
