Kamala Harris States Intention To Secure Democratic Nomination

(USNewsBreak.com) – President Joe Biden announced on Sunday, July 21, that he was suspending his bid for the Democratic nomination and dropping out of the presidential race. Top Democrats pressured the president to step down and let someone younger represent the party. In the aftermath, it’s unclear who the Left will choose to represent them, but Vice President Kamala Harris has said she’s up to the task.

After Biden revealed he was stepping down, he turned to endorse his second-in-command, saying she was “the best decision [he] made” when running in 2020, and he stands behind her now. Harris responded to his endorsement on X, formerly Twitter, and thanked Biden for “his extraordinary leadership.” She added that she intended “to earn and win this nomination” and represent the Democratic Party on the 2024 presidential ticket.

So far, Harris seemingly has the support she needs to win that nomination. According to CBS News estimates, the majority of Democratic delegates have endorsed her, meaning she has a very high probability of becoming named the official candidate at the Democratic National Convention, set to take place next month.

Then, there’s the matter of donations. In the 24 hours after Biden announced he would not run again, donations surpassed $81 million. The Democratic war coffers are now over $150 million. Former President Donald Trump is currently pushing back against the transfer of funds from Biden’s campaign to Harris.

Harris will likely face an uphill battle if Democratic delegates choose her as the nominee. Trump is confident he can beat her. He has also refused to commit to debating against the party’s eventual nominee. Polls showed Harris had a lower approval rate than Trump, who had edged her out by a mere 1%. Other surveys showed that the vice president lagged behind Trump by an average margin of 1.5%, slightly more favorable than Biden.
