Power Adapters for Baby Sound Machines Hit With Recall

Power Adapters for Baby Sound Machines Hit With Recall

(USNewsBreak.com) – Product recalls are very common. When manufacturers notice or become informed of a potential safety issue, they inform buyers of the problem and the steps to take to resolve it. One manufacturer recently notified customers of a massive recall involving nearly 1 million units.

On Wednesday, July 3, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Hatch issued a recall notice for Power Adapters sold with the company’s Rest 1st Generation sound machines due to a safety hazard. According to Hatch, Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co. issued the units, model number CYAP05 050100U, sold between 2019 and 2022.

The CPSC noted that the problem occurred when customers removed the adapter from the outlet. Sometimes, the plastic housing comes off the power adapter, exposing the plug prongs and posing a potential shock hazard. Consumers filed 19 reports of housing separations and two cases in which they received shocks. The company noted that it is no longer sourcing adapters from that manufacturer, and the ones it’s now using exceed safety standards.

The faulty power adapters are described as white rectangular plastic housings with “the model number, amps (“1.0A”), Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co. LTD, and Made in China” inscribed in black near the prongs.

Hatch is asking consumers to stop using the adapter immediately, unplug it, and cut the cord off at the base of the housing. The company requests users to upload a picture displaying the adapter with the cut cord and model number to www.hatch.co/adapterrecall, including their name and address. The company will contact the consumers directly to replace the adapters at no charge.

The recall has impacted nearly 920,000 units in the US and another 44,000 units sold in Canada. Once consumers have replaced the power adapter, they can continue using the sound machine normally. The company didn’t include the sound generator in the recall and considers it safe.
