(USNewsBreak.com) – House Republicans have pressured Hunter Biden to testify about his business dealings so they can determine whether his father, President Joe Biden, became involved. After months of back-and-forth, the younger Biden appeared for a closed-door deposition on February 28. Afterward, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee invited him to testify in a public hearing. He recently declined.
In a statement on his website, Rep. James Comer (R-KY) announced that he had invited Hunter back to testify at a public hearing scheduled for March 20. His business associates also received invitations to the impeachment inquiry, titled “Influence Peddling: Examining Joe Biden’s Abuse of Public Office.”
However, Hunter declined. In his response letter, Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, claimed a scheduling conflict would prevent his client’s attendance — the younger Biden is due to appear in a California court the following day. He also argued Biden would not attend because the event was “planned-for-media” and “not a proper proceeding” but rather a “carnival side show.”

Lowell took Comer to task for continuing to pursue the “baseless” impeachment proceedings when evidence and testimony undermined many of the witnesses he called. Lowell went on to add that if Comer planned to invite Jared Kushner, whom they claim benefitted from former President Donald Trump’s presidency, Hunter would show up.
Comer was quick to respond to the letter in a statement, saying the committee was moving the hearing forward and calling out Hunter for initially wanting a public hearing, and “now that one has been offered alongside his business associates … he is refusing.” Unlike the deposition, the committee extended an invitation to the younger Biden to appear at the public hearing, not a subpoena. While the committee also asked three of his former business associates to attend, it’s unclear who plans to participate.
Some House members, like Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX), have said that Biden’s refusal to appear wouldn’t affect the hearing because the committee has thoroughly presented the case.
