Trump Becomes the Winner in New Hampshire Race, According To Reports

Former President Donald Trump faced off against three Republican challengers in Iowa: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former US Ambassador Nikki Haley. When it became clear that Trump was the winner — he had 51% of the vote — DeSantis and Ramaswamy dropped out. A week later, on January 23, the New Hampshire primary took place. Trump has once again emerged as the GOP victor, according to projections.

With 99% of the vote reported, Trump was the clear winner of the New Hampshire primary with 54.3% of the votes, winning by a considerably smaller margin than he anticipated. He gained 12 delegates to add to the 20 he earned in Iowa, but there’s still plenty of time to go. Candidates need around 1,215 delegates to win the nomination.

Haley was Trump’s only challenger in this race, and she managed to secure 43.2% of the vote in the New Hampshire primary, earning her nine delegates. With the eight she won in Iowa, she now has 17 compared to Trump’s 32. The former president has urged Haley to drop out of the race, a move she says is not happening. “This race is far from over,” Haley said after the primary, “there are dozens of states left to go.” Trump seemed annoyed by her speech, insisting she shouldn’t have given a speech “when she had a very bad night.”

The next primary will take place in March in South Carolina, where Haley served as governor from 2011 to 2017 when she joined Trump’s cabinet. While the two were once friendly, the gloves are seemingly off with the Republican presidential nomination on the line. In recent weeks, Trump has taken to making fun of Haley’s name, going so far as to falsely suggest she’s ineligible to run for the White House because she wasn’t born in the United States, which she was. He insisted it was time for her to drop out because the longer she stayed in the race, the longer “she delivers to the Harris-Biden campaign.”
