(USNewsBreak.com) – In 2022, Kari Lake ran in Arizona’s gubernatorial race against Democratic rival Katie Hobbs. In the end, she lost by about 17,000 votes but took a page out of former President Donald Trump’s book and filed multiple lawsuits alleging she was the rightful winner. In September, Lake teased a run at the US Senate, looking to take the seat currently held by Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ). Now, she has formally announced her bid.
On Tuesday, October 10, facing a crowd in Scottsdale, Arizona, Lake announced she was running for the US Senate. She insisted she was “not going to retreat” but would instead “stand on top of this hill” with her constituents. Lake has been on the campaign trail, making a name for herself and boosting her visibility as she supports candidates in other states.

However, it seems Lake’s counterpart, Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, isn’t too worried about losing the primary to her. According to a statement, he contends to be the “only one proven conservative winner” and says what sets him apart is that he’s “not a talker” but a “doer” who wins elections. The winner of the Republican primary is likely to face off against Rep. Ruben Gallego (D), who seems to be a shoo-in for the Democratic nomination. He also isn’t worried about Lake, saying most of the state rejected her and will do it again this time.
Lake is a bit of a controversial figure in the Republican Party as a MAGA supporter who aligns with Trump on many issues. She currently has one remaining lawsuit pending regarding her loss last year.
It’s not currently known whether Sinema intends to run for re-election in 2024 — her campaign hasn’t made an announcement either way. However, if she does, it could lead to a three-party race, which could hinder Lake’s chances of winning. Should that happen, polling shows that it could very well be Gallego who benefits.
