Chinese Biowarfare Funding Connected to US Government

Chinese Biowarfare Funding Connected to US Military

( – While the COVID-19 pandemic slowly winds down, questions about its origins still abound. Based on intelligence reports and consultation with experts, one of the two leading theories is that the virus originated in a Chinese laboratory, contradicting months of protests from top US health experts saying it did not.

With the acknowledgment of the possibility that the virus might have been purposely lab-engineered, there is now concern over China’s biowarfare research and the links to continued US funding of those efforts.

China’s biowarfare program has three levels and ultimately traces back to the Chinese military. The US funding link happens at the level controlled by universities, research institutions, and medical companies. The CDC and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) both fund research. The US contributes skills, knowledge, and money to virus research at Chinese universities, among others, and works in collaboration with these entities, one of which is the suggested origin for COVID-19.

On May 29, 2021, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) expressed concern over the continued US funding of the program. He felt it’s too risky as the work could lead to newer, deadlier virus leaks. Paul said he had backing from Democrats to stop the funding, giving him bipartisan support in the event of a vote.

Now is the time to curtail funding the biowarfare program of an adversarial nation as tensions continue to rise between the US and China. The potential risk is simply not worth taking.
