(USNewsBreak.com) – A devastating scene played out in Lyon, France, on Friday, December 16. An apartment complex went up in flames, killing 10 people and injuring at least 14 others. Authorities are calling it the deadliest residential fire to happen in the last 3 years.
The blaze broke out in the middle of the night, around 3 a.m. Nearly 200 firefighters responded to the building and helped save 15 lives. Unfortunately, 10 people, including five children, perished in the fire.

One of the harrowing tales of the devastating event is of a mother who took drastic action by throwing her child into the crowd below. The people below caught the child, who survived, but according to Reuters, when the woman jumped out to save herself, she fell to her death.
There’s an investigation underway, and officials haven’t ruled out any causes, including someone deliberately setting the blaze. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, who rushed to the scene, said the families in the building had made reports of drug dealers in the area, “but it is too early to draw conclusions,” according to a different Reuters report.
Nearly 90 residents were displaced by the fire, according to The Associated Press, and local officials are working to find a place for them.
